David Frith - Slabbed Work
Slab work is very time consuming to make but exciting forms can be made this way. There is a good deal of care needed for the prepartion of the slabs to make the bottles and it is very important that they are built just at the right stage of hardness. Slabwork is prone to cracking and the walls must be pressed well together. The tops are added at the last stage either thrown or squared. These bottle shapes provide splendid areas for decoration either with the ladelling techniques or wax brushwork and overglazing.
